It’s time to initiate the cleanse process. Introduce yourself to the idea of taking responsibility and creating a little space.

Reduce intake of the following in the week leading up to your cleanse;

  • Caffeine - including soft drinks and black tea if you have multiple per day.
  • Sodium/salt
  • Processed sugar
  • Dairy
  • Gluten
  • Processed food
  • Smoking/Nicotine
  • Meat

The day before your cleanse, try to avoid all of the above, especially caffeine so you don’t get hit with a nasty headache when going without on the first day of your cleanse.

If you're opting to do a juice cleanse only, then we advise to stick to raw foods where possible. This style of diet will be easier to digest and helps prepare your digestive system for the change to liquids and lack of fibre coming up. Raw foods of course are easier in the warmer months, we get it! So, if you are cleansing in winter and want warmer foods pre cleanse, stick to vegetable soups low in sodium, steamed veggies or simple, unrefined, unprocessed soft food.

If you're doing juice and food, then simply eliminating the items listed above, should give your body a great starting point.

If you don’t prepare your body for cleansing, you will likely experience more intense and unpleasant detox symptoms, so take our advice and give yourself the best chance of thorough and enjoyable cleanse experience.

Post Cleanse:

Now to integrate. Farewell your cleanse with class and be sure to assimilate and maintain the vibes you feel now into life!

You want to ease out of a cleanse to safeguard and maintain your results. Be smart about your meal choices, take time to choose, this is the time to create new habits.

If you've just completed a pure juice cleanse, we suggest starting your days post cleanse with a morning elixir / lemon water, green juice (yes, more juice) tea, activated nuts, a yummy smoothie, a small nut mylk based porridge or a light muesli.

If you jump right back to a breakfast burger with the lot, you will likely feel inflamed, bloated and your bowel movements will be a little irregular. Not the post cleanse GLOW you were hoping for!

Mid cleanse extras:

You’re cleanse is in full swing, elevate, lift and keep going!

It’s still good for you to move during the cleanse process, however we suggest you avoid intense workouts such as HIIT, running and weights. Get moving with long walks, slower yoga practices and a little rebounding*.

You want support your lymphatic system (a network of organs and tissues that help rid the body of toxins). Unlike the circulatory system, which uses the heart as a pump, the lymphatic system uses movement to keep the fluids flowing through your body. If we stop moving, it will stop draining and shifting toxins, not what you are after during your cleanse! 30 minutes per day of movement is ideal.

*Rebounding (jumping on a mini trampoline) is a fantastic way to improve lymphatic drainage, get your bowels working and increase oxygen intake. Just  10 minutes of easy jumping uses the entire body and stimulates faster drainage of the released toxins from your organs. It has been shown to improve your immune system, help strengthen bone mass, increase endurance, improve energy and clear brain fog too, bonus!

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

A gentle form of massage using long rhythmic pumping techniques of the skin in the direction of the lymph flow, this is an indulgence that you must book! It can soothe swollen joints and reduce swelling/ fluid retention (existing and that caused by toxin release).

Dry Skin Brushing

Dry brushing your body with a natural soft bristled brush (available from most health food stores) stimulates detoxification by boosting circulation, encouraging the lymphatic system, gently exfoliating the skin, and energising the body. During your cleanse, brush once or twice daily for 5-15 minutes just before you shower.

Epsom Salt Bath

Epsom salts or magnesium salts are readily available at most health food stores for next to nothing! Try scent free epsom salts and enhance with a blend of essential oils (lavender and peppermint are fab!) Bathing for 20-30 minutes, will relax and prepare you for a deep restful sleep, open the pores in your skin, balance your pH levels, gently draw out toxins and slowly release of any stress related hormones.

Nasal Irrigation

This is an ancient tradition where a neti pot is used (or the more modern nasal douche found in all chemists) to rinse the nasal cavity with a saline solution. This process soothes any nasal congestion or irritation, can relieve headaches often associated with detoxing, and promotes drainage of excess mucus.

Tongue Scraping

Another traditional practice used to rid the body of nasties that have released into the mouth from the esophagus during sleep. It is best to do as soon as you wake up and before drinking anything to avoid any released toxins from re-entering the body/digestive system. You will likely see a thick white layer coating your tongue (more prevalent when cleansing) before you scrape.

Simply hold the two ends of the U shaped scraper (can be found at most health food stores) and applying gentle pressure, drag the sharper edge of the U bend, from the back of your tongue to the very tip. Rinse the scraper and repeat until nothing more comes up.  Reach back as far as you can without causing any gagging or harm. Follow with a thorough floss and by brushing your teeth. Try it before bed on cleanse days too, this will help with bad breath when morning comes!

Infrared Sauna

The evidence is piling up in favour of Infrared saunas and it seems there are countless reasons why you want to make this as regular a practice if you can. Not only hugely beneficial for detoxification, they have wonderful anti aging results and have recently proven to extend longevity if used for even 15 minutes 3-4 times per week. The more immediate benefits are improved circulation resulting in brighter skin, increased cell health and skin purification, pain relief, weight loss, relaxation and faster muscle recovery after workouts.

Different to regular dry  Saunas, which use stove coils or coals, Infrared saunas use Infrared elements to produce rays that feel just like it would if you were sitting in the sun.  Penetrating through the skin, deep into your muscle tissues it  induces a detoxifying sweat which causes you to release less water not dehydrating you and expelling all those toxins your bodies trying to eliminate. Type in Local infrared Saunas to your search engine to find one close to use. Lots of Gyms, salons, day spas and wellness centres have them. We have a few favourites so email us and we will be only to happy to share.

This is a practice that can be hugely beneficial for your health, and is a part of our own self-care. Still, who wants to talk about colonics, fecal matter, or voluntarily having tubes stuck up the backside? We get it. Any ill-at-ease feeling that comes in reading this next section may be far outweighed by the discomfort you’ll feel if you skip this part of the program.

Colonics before the juice fast will make you more comfortable and help you get more out of the cleanse. Before beginning a juice fast, it is essential to clean out the colon as fully as possible. Once the colon is cleared of solid foods its processes of digestion slow down significantly, but if the colon is not cleared, toxins will remain trapped in the body and can cause discomfort.

The ideal time for a colonic is the evening before the first full day of the juice fast, or the morning you begin. Having extensive experience with both open- and closed-system colonics, we recommend the closed system, which enables the therapist to perform body work—lymphatic-drainage massage, acupuncture, aromatherapy, etc.—during your session.**

By clearing the colon before the juice fast, you encourage the body to establish healthy bowel habits and retrain the colon as one of the main detoxification passages. A colonic in particular minimises the symptoms of detoxification, and reduces hunger during the fast.

If you experience a lot of detox symptoms, we recommend an additional colonic right after the 3-day or 5 day cleanse, or a sequence of daily enemas. Follow the recommendations of a colon hydrotherapist.”

**Open systems are recommended for those who have done colonics before and know what to expect and how to best work your stomach for better results, or even if you are a little shy and prefer the privacy of being on your own though the process.

Suggested programs to maintain your GLOW!

Consistent action creates consistent results.

1 day cleanse - weekly

Continue your post cleanse feeling, by committing to a 1 day juice cleanse every week (select ‘weekly subscription’ at the checkout and we will take care of the rest).

Regular morning food fasts

We encourage people to cleanse their own way, after all you know your body better than we do. An option that we love is committing to regular morning juice fasts. A few times a week, try to skip eating before Lunch. Start the day like you would a normal cleanse; warm lemon tea, AM elixir, A  zing herbal tea, and 1-2 juices. This regular fasting in the morning allows your digestive systems space to refresh and reset, as well as improving your insulin sensitivity, speeding up metabolism and allowing the body to burn fat for fuel faster.

Plan ahead - A goal without a plan is just a wish!

Schedule your future 3-5 day cleanses now so they fit in with life. We suggest a longer cleanse (3-5 days) monthly / bi - monthly / seasonally.
