What on earth are adaptogens?


Adaptogens are non-toxic plants which have been used for centuries in Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine practices as a tool to help combat stress and support our adrenal glands. Examples of adaptogens include holy basil, siberian ginseng, and maca root. Some of the most powerful adaptogens however come from the fungi family and include varieties of mushrooms such as reishi, chaga, shitake and cordyceps.


How do they work?


Adaptogenic plants are said to interact with the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the sympathoadrenal system, both of which are involved in the body’s response to stress. Adaptogens may tweak hormone production and physiological responses to stress to ensure that your body—from your mind to your immune system to your energy levels, functions as it should.
